Within weeks of the robbery the majority of the gang were arrested and sentenced in 1964. Biggs, however, gained further infamy in 1965 when he escaped from Wandsworth Prison eventually reappearing in Brazil.
Biggs voluntarily returned to the UK in 2001 and served 8 years in prison before being released on compassionate grounds. He died in 2013.
